Jerry Johnson on Creative Waves 2005

Jerry Johnson, one of the mentors for Omnium’s Creative Waves 2005 project wrote a short paper about his experience of it for Troy University’s eCampus Colloquium 2007.

Jerry is a professor of graphic design at Troy University and Chairman of the Department of Art and Design. After all this time, it was great to hear his personal reflections and, in particular, how it has affected his life and world a couple of years on:

Naturally, international study almost always produces social, intellectual and academic dividends for its participants. It goes without saying that e-learning experiences in this age are quite typical (although needful of further development and refinement) and are valuable and timely. Additionally, I have always found collaborative learning experiences to be extremely useful and extremely difficult at the same time. All of these modes of learning can reveal so much more and produce so much more than a traditional mono-disciplinary, mono-cultural, individualized learning environment. But consider the amalgamation of ALL OF THE ABOVE into one learning situation and you have something akin to Creative Waves. Nearly three years hence I am still noting the ripples from this virtual splash in my own professional development as a designer, as an educator and as a global citizen.

Jerry goes on to note quite a few interesting ‘ripples’. You can view all the presentations or download Jerry’s PDF paper directly.
